I have Norton Internet Security and Mc Afee Antivirus both running on my PC. (I don't know how they can co-exist, but they do.) Neither detected a problem with the Tahoe link. Thanks for the info, though.

Dennis, having two AV scanners is going to make your computer >really< slow. Are both actually functional or did one come with your computer and is now timed out? I'd delete them both and install Microsoft's free Security Essentials package. It's the "lightest" scanner and causes the least problems. ESET is legit, but quite new and my company doesn't yet have any clients using it.

was just at meade a few weeks ago, there was no notices or postings or information about new requirements at any marina or NPS stations.in addition 99.5% of enforcement people have no clue how to tell a 2 from a 4 stroke, or direct injected from carbuerated engine so any tohutsu TLDI or evinrude injected decals should work as all they can reference is a list of approved models,if your decals say your on the approved list they won't know any better.

Yeah, picking up a virus when you use a Mac, is like trying to get spare parts for a Yugo. :o Ain't many Yugos, so they don't make the parts. :P

The etec and the optimax merc as well as the tohatsu would not be included in the ban, Lake Tahoe has the most restricted rules in the country and those 2stroke engines are allowed at Tahoe. As what was stated before, the rescue and patrol boats on Tahoe use 2 stroke e-tec's.

Putting stickers On your engine that is not allowed, I don't think will help much, the older two strokes smoke at idle, dead giveaway.
All modern 2 and 4 strokes, are emission compliant, are very clean burning compared to older 2 strokes.

The problem is the weight and bulk of the modern 4 stroke compared to the new two stroke is significant. Sadly merc also makes their optimax
a very large engine and the smallest hp they have in the optimax is the 75hp, that 75hp is as large as their 125hp optimax, so shes a beast on the mac.

the etec and tohatsu are smaller in bulk, are epa, as well as carb compliant. The 50hp 4 stroke suzuki is the lightest of the 4 stroke 50's
but the 50 and the 40 share the same engines, unlike the etec 2 stroke 50 that shares it engine with the 60 e-tec. That's why if you want to stay in the macgregor recommended hp for the mac, the etec 60 is your best choice. That 10 extra hp, as well as the power to weight ratio really helps the mac move closer to the performance Mac states on their website.

The etec certainly wont be banned from any lake that allows gas outboards, because it burns cleaner than modern 4 strokes.
the ban doesn't take place till day one 2013, some of the rangers at the lake will not be very educated at this time I would guess, but as it gets closer to the ban I'm sure they will be trained to tell the difference.

I'd say something about the evils of "big" computer, but that might get this thread thrown into the Back Room. :D
