@ Jake (Litlyacht), Congrats! I bought my 2010 from Super Sport Marine and have had extremely great customer service from them! Welcome aboard! Wanted a 4 stroke 70hp...finances didn't allow. Super Sport helped rig mine the first time and we took it for sea trials the first day, sailing all points of sail plus playing around under power! Enjoy!

Welcome and good luck. Pick your days to go out and don't tackle any weather that you don't like. Remember, this isn''t a test, it's supposed to be fun. On bad days, stay on shore, do some work on your boat; read, drink, look at the pretty boats leaning over and dumping their guests into the water!
Check out the "mods" postings and pick a project. Roger really designed these boats with personal mods in mind, so learn how and try to add a few things. Remember to caulk (bed in nautical terms) every hole you put in to mount anything and you won't have any leaks. Get out that drill and make your Mac your own!
Most of all, have fun! Try all kinds of stuff to make you a better sailor. Read, ask questions and go out on other boats to see how they handle in different winds.

Welcome Sam! I am new here also, having just purchased a Mac 25 myself. Once you have it all together in your mind, come get me and get me up to speed. I am patching a sail today and picking my 15 hp motor next week, having it serviced. First time out will be as a motorboat to get the feel of it and look for leaks.

Hi everyone, I am new as well.
Just purchased a Macgergor Venture 25 1977. She will need a lot of love and work. It will be a nice project to bring her back to life.
I saw on line there is few 25' with no tiller but a wheel in the cockpit. Looking for all the info and pictures so I can do this transformation on mine.

Welcome all new owners. After nearly five decades of sailing I still look forward to every outing. As mentioned in previous post. Take time, don't do anything you think is dangerous. Learn from mistakes. Take joy in accomplishments. You will never stop learning. Also, as mentioned, you will find certain elitist Yatchmen who will look down their noses at Venture/Macs. Ask them when was the last time they got out of their slip locked marinas and went to parts far away. As I have mentioned, Freedom has been From Baja, Mexico to British Columbia, Canada and many points in between. Fair Winds and Full Sails...Old Salt.

I too just purchased a 1982 Mac 25. It didn't come with a motor and I am wondering what length shaft works best. When the transom is lowered to permit a 20" shaft motor plane to clear the bottom of the hull, the top of the transom is about 13" below the stern. Is that too low to reach and control the tiller? I might find a used 20" model but nothing longer in IL.

Did you get it surveyed or learn what to check on the swing keel, cable and pivot point? Like you I need all the advice and assistance that the good skippers on this forum can provide me. How can one check this when it is on the trailer?

I'd be interested in a wheel a bit larger then the factory one.

When I got mine it came with a 24 inch wheel A bit hard to get around , I have put on a 15 inch not sure witch I want to stay with each has it's good and bad points.
