The PO stored mine snaked up in the boat and it was a bit warped when I got it. I didnt worry about it, and over time it came back to normal by itself.

I had a very warped luff extrusion because it was stored wrong for many years. I tried the black pipe in the sun, clamping and using heat but it would always creep back. Ended up buying a new one. Might store it in the garage next winter as another member here mentioned.

Update:
It took about a month to get the 90+ degree bend out with it sitting in the sun daily. I turned it upside down and placed some weight on it, increasing it every week. The CDI website warns against this. YMMV

Interesting thread.

I installed a new 150 genny this season and the "kinks" in the furler seem to be making it hard to furl it in.

Is there a good way to straighten this out?

What's the best lubricant for a furler (not CDI)?

I store mine on the deck of the boat all Winter. To prevent a sag while it hangs over the bow, I make a temporary bow sprit from a broom handle, and attach the handle to the bow with wire ties and attach the furler to the handle the same way. I have never had a problem in the Spring. I cover the complete boat with a tarp.

Nothing....now go back to the nice white room and Nurse Ratched will bring you your pills and a nice glass of OJ .....

Same thing happened to us. Many slight kinks in the luff created more of a furling (roll up) issue rather than a sailing performance issue. Did the tube trick that CDI recommends. Affixed the tube to my fence (south facing) in my backyard. It was clamped straight for 1 year. Temps got over 100 deg in the summer and I thought that would do the trick. Nada! Zip! Had to buy a new one.
