That makes me feel better - the last two postings describe almost exactly my situation, now that I've learned a bit more from poking around during rainstorms.
Turns out there is a rainwater leak somewhere back near the starboard side of the transom. I crawled back there during a heavy rain this last weekend and removed the inner transom liners (2 plywood or pressboard pieces, cut to fit the inside curves of the transom), and sure enough, the drip, drip drip started up. Now I see that it drips into the bilge under the aft berth liner, and runs forward until it pools somewhere amidships.
I've been going crazy trying to figure out where the rain is coming in. After disproving a few initial theories, my best suspect now is where the steering arm that connects to the rudder crossbar comes out of the starboard side of the stern pass-through. I wish I could send a picture but hopefully it makes sense. There is a rubber boot that looks like it's intended to seal the hole, but it really doesn't. This opening is just forward and above where I can see the water coming in belowdecks, so I caulked it up really well with marine sealant, and we'll see! If that stops it I may try to fabricate some sort of rain shield for that area, instead of the caulking.
