Attaching forestay to chain plate

Bent keel lock bolt. repaired damage with some fiberglass tape and resin.

I've heard of folks using wooden lock pins to prevent damage to structure, I think in kick-up rudders. Is this something that can be done with a keel lock, too? Just curious, as my doesn't have a lock, and wouldn't need it, as the centerboard doesn't weigh enough to make a difference.
