I have a pair of these...Canon 10x30mm IS Image Stabilized Binoculars. 8 years ago got them for 300 bucks. Rugged and the stabilization was terrific. Plenty of optical power and compact too. The pair of AA batteries last for several years.

Based on your experience, could one usefully go higher in magnification for boating (eg. 15X) with IS ? ... just in case one wins a lottery.
