Sorry, but I have no idea who are the guys at the voting list.
For me music is most important at the sunset after dinner and as the first thing in the morning and my choise for the evening is Bolero - Ravel, certain classical is what set me for night, but in the morning favorite wake up is Chuck Mangione - Children of Sanchez. Once we were sailing with my friend, he was at the helm and my son went down and set in Mike Oldfield CD. This album is starting with sounds of storm and tunder. You should see expression on his face. He was looking around, where is this storm comming from on this perfect sunny day, he thought that some big ship is rolling over us.

I enjoy all types of music when sailing, from Rock to Clasical, but you just can't beat kicking back to a little Sinartra, with a cold beer and a good cigar, while watching the sun set. Can't wait for Spring!
If you haven't heard "Great Big Sea" I would suggest sampling their songs from itunes(itunes is a free download at Apple.com). They sing old sea chanties with a new pop twist. They are from Canada and very popular there. I can't say enough.
suggested titles for ye sailors
The Fisherman's Lament
A Boat Like Gideon Brown
Ferryland Sealer
I'se they B'y
My favorites would be Buffet (try "Someday I Will" or "One Particular Harbor"), Christoper Cross ("Sailing"), Rod Stewart ("Rhythm of My Heart") ...
My real vote goes to peace and quiet. I wait until I hit gurggle speed (2.5 knots) then just enjoy the sound of wind, water, and isolation from most things man-made.
If I could only find a way to silence the 250hp motors on fishing boats. I guess they are always running tight on time and just have to get to the next great fishing spot before the fish swims away. Race down the lake, wet the line and drown a few worms, race to the next spot. Lather, rinse, repeat....

I'm with you, Dan... the sounds of nature - the water bubbling past as we slip along, the gentle whisper of breezes and singing birds in shoreline trees, the sound of loons in the evening, the hypnotic lapping of waves on the boat, and the amazing quiet of a misty morning....

....mmmm... music indeed!
Anything rap with the F words. Ya, I like to get in a nice quiet cove and blast my rap music with all the F words. Really crank it up. Screw that nature stuff. Besides I have to scare away the Eagle, Snail Darters, Condors and Spotted Owls before someone eats them. If I'm lucky, I can pal up with my buddy with the jet skis. Those jet skis like to burn that oil but I think the haze scares away the bugs.
Don't clobber me! Don't clobber me! I'm only joking!I like the sounds of nature the best.

Oh, yeah, I know! Hey, they even sell extra large and powerful speakers with special attachments so you can hook'em up to the ski-tow bar and blast 'music' (or what pretends to be music) to the skier.... I want to kill people who do that!
(Although having said that, for the particular violators in this picture I can be pursuaded to offer some element of mercy....)

"If I should ever be called upon to act professionally, I am happy to think that there will be no difficulty in finding plenty of people whose loss will be a distinct gain to society at large....."
"If someday it may happen that a victim must be found
I've got a little list, I've got a little list
Of society's offenders who may well be underground
And who never would be missed, they never would be missed."
Im not enough of a Buffet fan to want to listen to a whole CD, but for individual songs, One Particular Harbor, and Son of a Sailor have to be toward the top of anyones list.
Grand Funks Im Your Captain
Any version of What Shall We Do With the Drunken Sailor?
There are a few I can do without as well. Christopher Cross Sailing and Styx, Come Sail Away come immediately to mind.
Titanic is one of my favorite CDs and I like to play it fairly loud, but Im always a litlte surprised that just the connotations of a particular piece of music can actually can freak people out.
As far as music to listen to while sailing, as opposed to sailing music, soundtracks from Last of the Mohicans and Columbus are two of my favorites.
For Classical, Mozart and Wagner are always good, especially Flight of the Valkyries.
We've a local goup called "Skuttlebutt" which I like a lot; they do a combination of Irish and Sea Shanties.
