Think about buying a horse watering trough for about $90 bucks. There's a garden hose fitting on the bottom where you fill it up. After you're finished running the motor, unscrew the hose and the water empties out. This simulation and test bed is as real as it gets.

Thanks Dave,
The salt water environment is new to us, we are used to fresh water.
When we get back from our trip this weekend l will flush it out with the vinegar solution.
l did clean out that discharge pipe and the water stream looks good but what I don't know is how old the
water impeller is?

With that much floating debris, a water intake could get clogged. It has never happened to me, though.

If in doubt, change it out. If it starts coming apart in there, it's a MUCH bigger job to go fishing in the engine's water passages for all the parts, and if you don't get them all, some passages won't get the full flow they're designed to get. Not good.

Mike,
Change the impeller and gasket, also the thermostat and gasket.
Both are easy changes and lots of info on this site to do so.
If not known than change.
