Seahouse made it up ! I read it on the forum .but it is amazing how compact and neat the sail winds up around the boom .makes handling it for transport so much easier .only drawback is now the sail cover is way to big !

I now have a loose footed main by Hyde sails. Love it but will those stack pack things work? It has battens in it that there is no way I wish to remove for furling. How does the roller boom work with those?
My current sail cover leaves the bottom of the sail exposed. Looking for some better options. I sail often with just the main so would live a super easy option on my M

It rolls up super tight and my battens stay in ? It would also allow you to leave the boom and sail on because it is so compact you can just fold it up against the mast when you lay it down .we almost never use our mac locally so anything that makes it easier to pack and travel is great .i remember having to struggle to put the boom in the boat with the sail still on it and it took up alot more room .its probability not much bigger than like a four inch PVC pipe .

Glad to hear you installed it and it's been working well for you, bahama bound. Did you have any trouble figuring out how to use it, or were the forum threads clear enough?

I have the Seahouse boom roller and I do like it (my Admiral especially so) and I agree its by far the most compact way to handle a mainsail as it does roll up very tight. I've only used it with the stock main, however, not with my fully battened Hyde. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work, except that you may have to fold things a bit to ensure that the battons are straight along the boom when they get rolled.

The only issue I have with it is that it does take two people to roll up. When it's rotated 90 degrees, it's easy for it to hinge suddenly and the luff does need to be managed as you roll it, so somebody has to be at the mast foot and the other person has to be at the boom end. If you routinely have two people to manage the main, it works great, especially if you trailer and need the main to be small and manageable.

With one person you just drop the main the old fashioned way. The roller gooseneck (what I call it) doesn't get in the way of that.

Now, it may work much better or even be single-person manageable if you had a topping lift that could rotate at the boom end, which I don't have.
