Mast raising system

Raising the mast could definitely be an issue without additional reinforcement to handle the moment arm introduced by moving the fulcrum up a foot. I haden't given that much thought, as I was more focused on loads during sailing. Either condition could be fairly easily addressed, but in light of the feedback ya'll have provided, I'm pretty sure the elevated rear mast carrier is the was to go. Think you will find a lot of geometry changed when you alter something like the mast hinge point including baby stays and all other lines that might be out a wee bit needing to be adjusted or replaced.
CSM my crutch is exactly 82" to the floor at the engine well at travelling height it would be 10" higher at the raised position and the front carrying point is 6-7" higher than standard, even with my raised position you still have to make sure the boom lays beside the mast but it's no drama unless you forget but still can take a little fiddling but well worth it for the benefits.
Mine looks way taller than what it is because the arch gives that impression I think.

Thanks Boblee; looks like I'll have to rig up an extension or adjustable tube and sleeve to raise the carrier a foot.

It still needs to be fairly solid or strong at the crutch as there can be a fair bit of forward or backward pressure when moving the mast on the roller.
Will put a photo up of the mast support at the step point as you really need one if leaving the hardware on the mast but it's pretty simple, will have to find one after the weekend because it's duck opening saturday but will be heading off early tomorrow and my bedtime now.

I've never given much thought to waterfowling down under, but since you mentioned it; do you get "LOCALS" that migrate from coast to coast, or do you see antartic birds? My niece is on her way back from Austraila; hope she remembered to bring me a boomerang....instead of some t shirt she picked up at the airport

I have a plethora of lines between mast and boom (mostly lazy jacks), so I leave the boom with the mast. But I do disengage the gooseneck. Never occurred to me to try to unstep or step with it attached. Seems like an invitation to breakage.
