I think the fear of healing is genetic. My admiral is tall and nothing seems to overcome that innate fear. For her it comes from the small size of our boats as she didn't feel this strongly on our 34' boat.

Double check marks. But remember, as a general rule women live longer too. Something about putting yourself in risky situations. Their survival instincts kick into overdrive. Ours gets overruled by testosterone.

The X chromosome does seem effective in canceling ideas like..

Forgive my crude paint drawing.

Going with a new fllor idea, this is an idea I came up with that might be a solution. Basically, it's a double floor that is hinged on each edge that will flip up to connect in the center. It would be near 45 degree foot brace. It could be split into sections so that the whole floor isn't flipped up. Then it can be stowed flat when not sailing and you wouldn't need to take up any other space storing a board. It's just a thought.

edit: After looking at the drawing again, it looks like you might be able to stow it flat against the benches if you didnt want to have it as a floor. If you went that route then you could tailor the angle of the footrest based on the width of the boards.

#1 Go to shoe shop
#2 Buy one pair of them clogs with 4" - 5" thick soles on them whoola !!
#3 If she should go MOB just look for said clogs floating up-side down in the water get them in bright red or yellow easier to see in the water than the pink ones

#4 2" strap along the center of the cockpit from pedestal to cabin hatch entrance same height off floor as cockpit seats now when heeled just put feet up on strap don't know if ped is strong enough to support that kinda weight say two adults but should be ok for younger kids
#5 buy a stretch rack for the Admiral then U can look up to the Boss !!

Like many competition boats (where heeling is excessively encountered), a strap suffices very well for foot under, as well as step-on, while retaining the companionway passage without any reduction in the traversing area. To divide that in half with a weighty device that must be manhandled back into place when powering seems counterproductive.
I'll admit, the admiral is never totally comfortable unless she's behind the wheel...

The test for the missus on our boat is when stuff slides off the table she starts going white and if theres any posibility of a sail going up you can bet the table is stacked with as much and many breakables as possible, crikey thats only 15 deg.

If she is unhappy whenever the boat goes past 12 degrees, no mere strap under her feet is going to make her feel more stable.

No, I think the board is definitely the way to go for my purposes. All I have to do now is figure out how to attach it. I'm looking for some stainless steel slots that will grab pins projecting from the end of the board.

Hm. Maybe I'll employ pintles and gudgeons, if I can get them small enough and cheap enough.

Yeah, that's my go-to, but she gets spooked easily, and then wants me to take over.

And she has the same problem at the helm. I can't seem to convince her how simple it is to merely sit on the high side. So if another footboard behind the helm makes her feel better, I'm all for it.

I'm thinking it might be cheaper & easier to get a new taller Admiral with sailing experience & $$$
But then again I'm single ! Just Saying
I can just hear the Thunder Rolling In all these Admirals looking for a hangmans rope !!

I'm very fortunate in that my admiral loves sailing and extreme heeling. Not so much the big waves though.

Fortunately no one has modified a Mac to the point where it carried a yardarm, (yet). Otherwise, you might have endd up swinging from it!
