(Don't tell my wife...) "Get Her On Board" by Nick O'Kelly.
It told me everything I am doing WRONG as the captain.

Re: Winter Reading List
Okay, I know I'm resurrecting an old Winter Post & it's Spring, sort of...
But 10 pages in & I knew I had to recommend this writer: Ed Robinson & probably - anything he's written.
I read: "Leap of Faith: Quit Your Job & Live On A Boat" which is about "The Dream". Pretty good - A practical way to accomplish the impractical.
But I started this entry 10 pages into reading "Poop, Booze & Bikinis". Kindle it. It's hysterical

Re: Winter Reading List
I know it's spring in US but winter is fast approaching in southern Aus so here's a couple of goodies "The unlikely voyage of Jack de Crow" by A.J. Mackinnon. Crazy guy (aussie) working in UK gets an old Mirror sailing dingy with intention of making a short trip in an English canal and ends up crossing the Channel and sailing (rowing) the thing to the Black Sea - just great adventure. The other one I'm currently reading is "Breaking Seas" - "An overweight, middle-aged computer nerd buys his first boat, quits his job, and sails off to adventure". Only part way in but a great read!Cheers all.

Re: Winter Reading List
I know; this is totally not winter (in the 90's here in Central Florida today), but just finished a great read. Literally could not put the book down. The book is Halsey's Typhoon: The True Story of a Fighting Admiral, an Epic Storm and an Untold Rescue by Bob Drury and Tom Clavin. The authors tell the story of Halsey's 3rd Fleet action in late 1944 in support of Gen. MacArthur's landing on Mindoro (WW II) when a monstrous typhoon arose. It is told through the experiences of several of the men who survived the loss of three ships and a desperate search for survivors. The account in the book is compelling in the way the authors present the reader with the factors that went into very human decisions either for good or for folly. I was particularly struck by one of the many recommendations of the review board that sailors know better how to judge the weather by what they see rather than just a dependence on weather reports.
