I use these on my
also. Mine have a small chain on them. I attached the chain to the mast so that I don't have to worry about dropping them. Also, the bolts that I removed, are the perfect size for pinning the rudders in the up possition.

Are those 1/4" The link doesn't specify. LOL!
I like the idea of pressing in wood dowels and having a quick release system. Both great ideas.

Got a pair of hitch pins and they work great! just remove the spreaders, put the mast in position and lash the spreaders to the mast using Velcro straps my wife made for me (we use Velcro to lash the head stay to the mast and all the rigging as well. Quick, easy and strong. ). Just want to make sure that the pins are properly installed in case of a failure so pointing down is how I do it.
I decided to go against putting dowels in the spreaders because if God forbid, anything were to happen, I would much rather replace a spreader than a mast.
