Well I started the sanding process and found out the the dimples appear to be blemishes on the gelcoat. They sand down to smooth with no impact into the gelcoat. I am using a 150 grit paper on a 6" orbital. Working great. Now I have to build stands to support the boat.
Thx for all the good info.

Make sure to wear a niosh respirator and not just a dust mask, especially not knowing what's on the bottom. Also a tyvek suit keeps that crap off you. Even with all that you'll still think you had a mouthful of pennies when you're done.

Well I got the boat up on the blocks I built.... back, middle and front. I used the trailer method to lever the boat onto the blocking. It worked great. I had quite the time getting the center board bolt to release but finally it did. I noticed the line was starting to frey so it is good I am doing this. Also I see that just infront of the pivot point there is a thin crack line running upto the pivot point ......... nothing major but it is there. Should I think of doing some fiberglass reenforcing or just sand and put epoxy and anti fouling paint on it. The pin has a slight bend to it also. What line should I replace it with and how much does it require.
Job is going well ..... dusty and all laying on your back and over head. Tough on an old guy.
Thx for the help.

5/16" yacht braid is all that's used now. BWY doesn't bother with the wire/synthetic combo any more, and mine had all line when I replaced it last year. I don't remember how long it was, though.
I did include extra so I could loop it to the helm guard for quick access when driving onto the trailer.
It's nothing special, so I would pull the old one out (tie a thin messenger to it before you pull it out, if you want), measure, and head off to West Marine for by-the-foot line of whatever color you want. And add or subtract from what's there if you don't like the length, of course.

I remember that it took me over 40 hours to complete from start to end. It was worth it, but i agree it's tough on the old body, i was sore for a week afterwards.

Well epoxy and bottom paint finally arrived. Can't wait to get started. While I waited I scrapped and sanded the fiberglass entry and hatch slides. They were badly oxidized. Can anyone tell me if I can or should paint them with interprotect epoxy or just put wax on them? They cleaned up really nice .... from gray to white. Thx

Hi
I got the first coat of interProtect 2000e on. Washed and wiped down hull with 202 first and taped off waterline. The bottom is now grey. (Next coat white) It was a real piece of work to get up into centre board trunk! Hopefully with putting on 4 or 5 coats all will get covered. Just a note .... 1/2 of 1 gallon does not quite cover the bottom and centre board. I am glad I ordered 3 gallons 1 grey and 2 white. All looks good and can't wait to get th rest of the coats on.
Still haven't got a reply on .... if I should put the epoxy on the cabin enterance and hatch slides or just wax them?
Thanks for all your help .... things are progressing.

Update on progress ... got boat back on trailer and doing the 3 support areas with epoxy. Did 5 coats interprotect and 2 coats csc. Had to order second gallon csc as 1 did not do it. I will put 3rd coat of csc on everything when support areas are done. Was a big job but worth it. Looks great. Thx for advice.7

"Serenity Wins" is now offically registered, just got offical papers back from Ottawa. The Admiral got 3 coats of Carnuba wax on her after 3 containers of deoxidizing 3m rubbing compound. She looks like new. I added 12v pump for running water and built some really cool puck board gas compartment locking doors. (If I knew how to post picures I would post them) Put her in the water and christened her in a lake nearby. Had very little wind but worked out great. Did a mod to trailer winch to help with the bow coming up to front rubber.(cut out square opening in front of winch placement and moved winch to topside bracket, now winch pulls up on front eye. Still had to do Mac bump but all is good.
She is ready to hull to San Carlos Mexico next month.
I am looking for some advice on new GPS/Sonar combo. I have an old Eagle Status (it work) but was wanting to upgrade to something newer, not too expensive .....any advise?
If anyone want to add locking compartment doors to the cockpit compartments my idea worked out great. Do not know how to post pics.
Thanks to all for you advice and guidance.
