Actually, your getting closer now.

It's telescopic, whatever it is. The openings the verticals pass through are double-wide, with a notch in the perimeter rail at the left side that matches the extra width of the top opening, and there looks to be drawer slides or some such hardware on the other side. So either a telescopic table or berth mechanism, or something to do with the head, which is enclosed with a door on the X.

Yes Tom, you are correct - sailboatmike was also getting closer. I think tom looks at things with such a dry eye for engineering that the mere description of the thing brought him to some amazing conclusions about the function of the parts. I think with help from tom most of you will be able to figure it out so before I show you more of it I would ask a personal question:

Well played, Sir! Well played! Why, prithy the mere glance of the fearful device and engine of remonstrance shall assure your domestic tranquility evermore and anon, I dare say. I presume, Sir, that yon apparatus shall be mounted in the traditional manner: utilizing thine outboard's trim adjuster to its most beneficial effect.

In so many words - that is sort of correct - domestic tranquility can be maintained.

Look, it's just me and the wife in this thing - the boat is near air tight and made of fiberglass - yet there is no suitable partition between the main source of noxious fumes and proper ventilation, (and I'm not talking about the fuel system). But I digress,

I always wanted a nice private stateroom in the bow complete with facilities. This makes a great place for the women folk to do thier thing. It also makes for a great space for the captain because of the handy ventilation hatch above the forward berth.

Without further ado, here are the parts for the project: there are three of them,

And, although this is not finished yet - it will look sort of like this when open:



I still have a lot of sanding and varnishing to do - and then the REAL trick is to install it and see if it even works!!

Great idea! Enjoying trying to figure out the design as you spoon feed it to us. I'm stuck trying to work out how you will eliminate the horizontals that cross from side to side so you can walk through it - since I'm not as smart as Tom.

Your work is outstanding as usual. And, it appears to bear your usual trademark - intricacy mixed with complexity and a twist of different. Can't wait to see it installed.

My interpretation of how this contraption works is that the metal tracks on the horizontals are just brackets to mount on the forward surface of the starboard head partition. The longer of the two panels locates as a stationary wall in the area of the center aisle. The shorter panel slides to port to close off the V-berth, and slides to stbd to open access to the V-berth, which requires stepping on the port settee to access.

This is all so the snorer in the V-berth won't be bothered by the disco ball & dancing lights activity in the main salon!

I'm guessing the slides bring the 2-part system to starboard, so it tucks behind the bulkhead completely. The second part extends to port after (or before) the 'main' part is slid to port, essentially acting as a full bulkhead in concert with the existing bulkhead, but is fully retractable so the original space is preserved.

Close at least?

I assumed he was closing off at the aft head partition - based on his discussion of head aromatics, forward hatch ventilation, etc.
