That sounds like quite an adventure. I wish you fair winds and following seas. Although, I know for the Chesapeake, that is an ambitious wish.
I sailed a great deal on the Chesapeake back in the 6o's while in college. We would typically race south from near Annapolis starting in mid afternoon down past the Thomas Point light house to Pt. No Point and then turn and tack back north all night. We would always be beating back into the wind and waves, the bow sinking into every other wave, salt water sloshing down the scuppers back and forth as we were always burying the rail of our 44-footers. My job was to lie in the bow in fowl weather gear, shining a flash light on the Genoa's luff sending hand signals to the helmsman so we were sailing as close to the wind as possible without pinching. It could get wet and cold. Correction, as we did this in the spring and fall, it was always wet and cold.
Hopefully, the summer will be more hospitable. I will try to imagine needing that air conditioner you got while you do the Chesapeake.

Thanks. As most folks know about us "senior citizens", we love to tell our stories. I love this forum because it gives us all a chance to tell our tales. Lord knows anyone who gets underway in a boat, a sailboat especially, will soon have tales to tell. I look forward to hearing about your Chesapeake voyage later this summer. Knowing the Chesapeake as I do, something "interesting" will happen. Do share.

While we are waiting to hear back from further tales from the Chesapeake, and on the topic of "young" and "interesting", I will "share":
Back in my college days at ETSU in Commerce, Texas, I would take my lateen-rigged Seahorse out to Lake Tawakoni when I had the time. On this particular weekday, it was pleasant and sunny, and no other boats were on the lake, so I decided it was a perfect day to "even out my tan", and put my trunks and shirt in the little six-pack-sized hold at the base of the mast.
Anyone who has made the mistake of cleating off the sail on a boardboat with trickly lake winds will probably be laughing already.
Over she went, and my trunks, t-shirt, and all headed to Davy Jones' locker.
Time to go get some clothes on, I figured.
Under the youthful misconception that anyone would notice much less care, I sailed close enough to the East Quinlan Parkway Bridge to avoid detection, and using the boat as a shield walked it up the shore. At least I had the foresight to leave my keys hidden on the tire of my car, so I ran from the water to the car without being detected (to the best of my knowledge).
If I were given to embellishment, I would go on to say that's how I met my wife, but that would not be true...

Funny you should make that observation. Many years later a bought a little 15-ft tri-hull power boat from the photographer in the studio next door to mine. I did not name the boat. He did. The name was...

Well, then, judging how this post has spun off into sea stories that get down to the "naked truth"
, let's hope the most interesting thing that happens on your Chesapeake adventure this summer is spotting Stickinthemud on a "bareboat" charter.
