Currently enjoying some health care in Metairie LA. The roads over there remind me of your description of your roads. More destructive test track than road.

I think the best times to repack and inspect is:
1. When the hubs feel hot.
2. Just after you pull it out at the end of the season, so it does not sit with any moisture in them.
3. When ever you feel is good. Maybe twice a year?

Our roads here in Quebec are like a continuous shaker-table test. I don't know why car companies spend so much money on proving grounds, they should just drive around our province instead.
Sounds like the highways we last traveled on in Texas!

For knocking out old outer races from the hub I’ve used a 1/2 and 3/4 inch diameter brass rod.
Can be found at a local hardware store or a local machine shop.
Worth having and they last for decades.
