Herschel,
Once completed, are you going to use such an immaculate boat, or donate it to the Smithsonian

Impressive.

Yes, we will use it, but I suspect I will become even more persnickety about keeping it clean and nice. I expect the cockpit deck will take the most wear. There may be a little SeaDek covering for that down the road. We'll see. I was happy with SeaDek in my O'Day Sprite. It was installed about 15 years ago.

Why are you using black tape rather than paint? Tape dulls after a short time and cannot return to original finish. I have experienced dull tape on my motor homes and had it replaced with paint.

Hi LelandMorris!
Herschel please correct me if I’m mistaken, but I believe what was being referred to was taping to mask off the region(s) that will be getting black paint now that the white paint has been applied and has had a chance to cure… I don’t think that it was black tape that was going to be applied.
I’m really looking forward to seeing your finished project Herschel! (And just a bit envious too!

)
I’m still in the water here in SC through the end of December or there about.
Then once the boat is on the trailer I have to start working on removal/replacement of my hubs due to the seized wheel studs

.
I’ll be lucky to get my hatches painted in 2026… never mind the whole boat!

.
I did breakdown and bought a 20 x 10 canvas garage from Harbor Freight last week to get set up for working on our 15 ft runabout Scrambled which is to be our “practice” project before tackling our Mac26X. This is to take a lesson from your efforts to provide shelter and shade in the Spring next year.
It seems like you have a really good guy doing your boat!
It’s gonna be stunning!
Best Regards,

Sorry about the confusion. He is taping around the black trip areas to paint the black. Just taping off the edges.

I like the idea of the canvas garage. Maybe you can use it to do the Mac by erecting it over the forward half, paint that portion, and then the same for the aft half. As for the trailer hubs, I am unfamiliar with the wheel studs. Can you walk me through that? As for the pick up of my Mac, I don't have a completion date, yet, but I suspect it will be before Christmas.

The painter/marine tech texted me today that he thought he should be finished this weekend, so I am hopeful that I can pick it up Monday. He's about 40 miles away, so it involves a short trip. I'll bring it home, then go through the interior and see what needs some attention and cleaning there. Probably get it back in the water a week or two later. I'll get pictures posted right away.

That is an amazing transformation. It's hard to believe it's the same boat!
