I just put disc brakes on my '96 X trailer. (A simple project not much harder than changing the bearings and seals). As part of the project I installed a reversing solenoid. They don't cost much and are simple to put in. You just disconnect the brake line at the actuator output and place the solenoid in between. Bleed the brakes and your done. I just ran the additional 5th wire along side the original 4 and bundled it together with spiral wrap. It has a separate bullet plug at the bumper which goes to the backup light circuit. Works like a charm eliminating the need for the lockout pin I had previously drilled for.

My dealer delivered the boat and backed it into my storage slot at the sailing club. He had to use a metal device in the side of the coupler to keep the surge brake from activating. He said nothing about an electronic lockout.

He delivers Macs all around the country.

Ken,
Do you have the 5 pin connection?
