Having a machine to make ice or freeze bottles of water is great. Why buy ice? When motoring turn your freezer to max then put the frozen bottles back into your cooler.

I have a Honda 2000. I would really like to see a mod which would allow me to run the generator from the same place it's stored. The storage place should be safe from water, not be noisy and be out of the way. I have seen the Honda stored under the helm seat. Is that the best location? Is there another option? Visualize......

finally bit the bullet and got an Engel.
used it in Las Vegas in the back of my Van in 120 degree temps.
worked flawlessly.
kept it at 40 degrees.

now i've got it going on the X.
used the same mod as listed below. didn't cut up the box quite that much. plenty of ventilation and works great!

$617 (with the shipping) but well worth it.

I use a refer when "camping" at the dock. It is a pretty tall unit, 3.5 cu ft., I think. Cost $100 and works great. When day sailing, it keeps stuff plenty cold. I have the igloo ice cube for use when needed. Of course I have the original cooler macgregor gives you. It stores clothes and completes the vee berth extension, as I am sure it was designed to do. That must be true, cause it sure doesn't keep anything cold!

For a 3-5 day cruise Ive found Moe's trick of freezing lemonade in one quart containers gives my Igloo enough capacity to stay cold the whole time...I might need to add ice on the last day depending on how often I open and the outside temp

The nice part of this system is no water/ice mess in the cooler, so the space is more usable for food

We use four of them, one in each corner for this time period

Lemonade takes 24 hours to freeze solid in our deep freezer, for planning purposes

I have a TEC cooler that I have used while motoring (pulls 10 Amps 12 VDC when on an overnight ..I havent logged the duty cycle but it wont run down one group 42 battery on an overnight from experience.

It keeps food cool only, no freezer as noted above.

Best part it came free with my $35000 VW camper, that also pulls Catigale

he probably places it lengthwise in the center void with a seat back cushion on top across the stock seat on the port side.
it does work, but only for sleeping. and you have to move the ice chest each time.

a better method is to raise the port seat to the same height as the V and the starboard dining seat using marine board (or fiberglass). then use the access cover from the port seat across the walkway/void. place velcro on each side and a support bar under access cover while in place.
finally, make a small 14x16 cushion to fit.
now you have a sturdy, full size V-berth.

Hmm, yeah I guess so.. we just use the back-rest from the forward dinette seat and lay it across. But you're right - didn't want to divert the discussion... so...
