Good luck, Rich. The luxury and safety of a larger bluewater boat is a logical progression for someone with a growing young family. I still would like to see a larger, luxurious in-the- water 35 foot version of my x-- 5000 pounds of water ballast and a 250 horse to keep that cabin cruiser option!

I was touring Alamitos Bay when one of those huge folding Tris came in from racing offshore. That looks like the 36 and it was a great looking boat. They were passing everyone coming in on main alone. You lucky guy! I would like to get one of those $225,000 boats, but it would be as a gift, I could not afford it.

Arent you going to be the sight, climbing on the water taxi with the briefcase in one hand and the Porta-Potty in the other?
How far is it to the nearest clean out? Sounds like you will be living at Pops House, and using the boat from the Taxi ride.

I met a couple last year who have had a 28' Racing version with a cutter rigging for several years and race in the PNW and Califonia. He tells me that the boat will normally do 1.5 times the wind speed on some points of sail. They usually sail at 13 - 20 knots but have had it as high as 26 knots. Been on one pontoon a few time, not my thing. Not much room inside but it's a rocket.

The photo I posted is a Farrier 31, The boat I want is a factory built Corsair 31, basically same boat. You can find them on line for less than 100k used. The interior is less spacious than a mac but the sailing speeds are near what a Mac with a big iron genny at WOT would be.

There is a pump out facility, diesel fuel, hoist crane, DIY boat yard (which I will be using), and all the things I will need to get this baby ready for Adventure time! I will BE GLAD to end my Porta-Potty days...that's for sure! Have you been talking to my dad? That's what he says too....but he actually knows me better than that....I could stay over there anytime without having to do the following, which I will list here to illustrate how cost affective the Mac really is! Offer $38.5K for a boat (may have to go up a few $K.hope not)
Pay the state if Ca $2800 in sales tax (those snakes)

Thanks for the post. I did not realize the Corsair had so many marginal points. I guess I have always been smitten by their ability to perform on the wind. One thing sure, If the price is up where I believe, Ill be strapping on a couple of MaddMike's Amas to flatten my ride and smile with my view over the Mac cabin.

No way dude. You are a Mac sailor...you don't need no stinkin captain!
Honestly, I doubt your new boat is harder to sail than your Mac...it will just cause a lot more damage if it hits something. You will get used to the higher inertia pretty quick I think...and you will like it, will track straight as an arrow compared to your Mac. Although my old keelboat was quite a bit smaller (about 5500# if I recall) than what you are getting, I found that sailing a Mac was more challenging. With the bigger boat, you will need to be much more diligent about water depths. I got grounded a couple times on my keelboat...but then, this is Florida too.

We'll miss you in Oxnard.
But perhaps you should post your quandry about whether to hire a delivery pilot over at Lecttic Latitudes ... the website for Latitude 38, the SF bay sailors monthly.
I have a hunch they will tell you that you would be insane to take a brand new (to you) boat out the Golden Gate at all ... much less on a maiden trip to Avila Bay.
The sailing procedures out the Gate alone are formidable. The waters along the shore between the Gate and Half Moon Bay are treacherous, and devour yachts regularly. This extends a dozens miles out!
Remember the learning curve on your Mac? Wanna duplicate that in blue water? Yoinks, not me!
I'm sure you will be better off with a competent delivery pilot!
