Good reminder. I think I was told that Halon will put out a wood fire, but since it leaves no residue, there is a danger of re-ignition after the Halon dissipates if the wood embers do not have time to cool.
Even if Halon does impact the environment a tad, I wonder what environmental impact there is when a boat or a house burns out of control for 6 hours, and then the industrial pollution when industry has to build another one? Also seems like halon could easily be recycled from old units much like air conditioning fluids are today.
I guess government policy can't be anything more complicated than a 5 second sound bite or they can't sell it.
