Scott, your trip to Baja looks great! You lucky so & so. Hope that you and Marlo have a wonderful time.

Sorry that we didn't get to hook up at dinner in Catalina last week. How was it, towing your dingy? Were you able to figure out your 6-knot towing fuel economy? Looking forward to sailing with you again in the summer when you return. The next time, maybe we'll all go to the same harbor!

BOBBY
THANKS FOR THE ROAD REPORT- I WILL BE ENTERING MEXICO ON TUESDAY THE 11TH AND PICKING UP THE ADMIREL AT THE LORETO AIRPORT ON THE 13TH. WE WILL LAUNCH OUR MAC AT THE PUERTO ESCONDIDO LAUNCH RAMP ON THE 14TH AND BEGIN SAILING DOWN TO LA PAZ (150 MILES+-) I HOPE TO TAKE 2 WEEKS GETTING THERE. ONCE IN LA PAZ WE WILL REPROVISION THE BOAT AND HEAD BACK OUT AND SAIL AROUND ISLE ESPIRITU SANTO FOR ANOTHER WEEK.

WE'VE GOT THE BOAT PRETTY WELL LOADED DOWN WITH STUFF WE THINK WE'LL NEED, PROBABLY WAY TO MUCH. I'M BRINGING 34 GAL OF FUEL, BUT I PLAN ON SAILING MOST OF THE TIME AS THE WINDS ARE PRETTY CONSTANT 10-15 KNOTS

I FIGURE I HAVE SPENT ABOUT $500 BUCKS ON INSURANCE'S, BOAT REGISTRATIONS, TOURIST VISA'S AND FISHING LICENSES SO FAR, AND EVERYTHING IS GOOD FOR 6 months to a YEAR . IF WE LIKE THIS TRIP, WE'LL PROBABLY HEAD BACK IN OCTOBER OR NOVEMBER

ONCE WE GET BACK I'LL POST SOME PICTURES AND INFO FOR ANYONE WANTING TO MAKE THIS JOURNEY

HI MARK AND DIANE

MARLO AND I WERE SITTING ON THE BENCH OVERLOOKING CAT HARBOR WATCHING ALL YOU MAC'S MANURVERING TO RAFT UP TO MIKE INMON'S BOAT. QUITE A SIGHT AS IT MUST HAVE BEEN 25-35 KNOTS OF WIND. WE DID HAVE INTENTIONS TO SAIL AROUND TO BE WITH EVERYONE BUT WHEN WE HERD THE FORCAST THE CONSENSUS WAS TO STAY PUT.

WE TOWED THE DIGHNY AT 7-8 KNOTS VS. 16-18 KNOTS, SAVED ONLY 2-3 GALLONS OF GAS, TOOK AN EXTRA 4 HOURS TO GET THERE. DEFINITLY NOT WORTH THE SAVINGS.

WERE HEADING TO MEXICO ON THE 11TH AND WILL BE THERE A MONTH AND WE'LL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO SAILING WITH YOU GUYS THIS SUMMER.

Hmmm - Tohatsu 90? :o
That's not what we've been expecting of the hi-tech 2-smokes.
I thought that DFI gave them 4-stroke economy at part throttle settings??? :?

frank Scott gets about the same gph as I do with my suz. df50 running at the same speed.

When running at displacement speed I think gph will suck compared to running at planeing speed. You might have to run the engine at around 3500 to reach planeing but your covering 18mph instead of 8mph at 3000.

My other boat had a 90 hp outboard it would at wide open burn almost 12 gallons of fuel to go to Catalina from long beach. When I put a 135hp on it I could go the same speed but less throttle and it burned 6 gallons to cover the same distance. If I was at displacement speed (large swells)
gph was shot to hull.
