Since all single engine powerboats depend on their engine to dock it does not seem unreasonable for me to depend on my reliable 50hp bigfoot to dock. It would seem learning to dock under sail might be a good skill to learn, however it does not seem safer to me to make it the normal practice.

Anyway I figure I will learn to dock under sail when/if it becomes necessary. Or maybe if the wind is just right and the dock is not crowded. :macx:

I had problems docking under power until I found these video's

And

What others are saying about docking is correct. I would not want to sail into a dock with much winds. I would prefer to anchor and get some help.
With that, please have your anchor ready at all times.

I guess I will have to chime in. The sailing classes in my opinion are one of the MOST important things you can do. As far as the instructor not allowing an outboard to be used, looking back I am glad we did not have it to fall back on. We not only learned docking, but also how to get yourself out of trouble in other areas to. How to protect yourself from lee, how to unground yourself using the sails alone, how to avoid and evade other dangers without relying on the motor. As far as I am concerned, everyone that sails should take them.
