Got to try the stock Idasailor 26S rudder in some fairly good wind yesterday. The rudder was secured in the down position and we sailed using the Genoa in conditions where it was too big and then went to the working jib (dont know what the wind speeds were, not white capping but close).

I never did use the original rudder but am pleased with the stock Idasailor one. The tiller was always "light" and even when "overpowered and heeled over", the boat kept a fairly straight course without a lot of constant rudder correction. Im pretty dang happy with the rudder (and the boat in general).

New thing I have to remember however... raise the rudder before pulling the boat out of the water :? I also got to test my "weak point" method for releasing the rudder in case it hit something. The weak point held up just fine but the 1/8 inch ss cable snapped. Back to the drawing board (yup, Ive seen the releasing jam cleats - may have to try and find one)
