I never heard of it. I dont think I want to cross Erie on April 13th. I will try to make the July 13th event. I have a few biker friends. They dont like water much, but If its a Harley thing they find a way to go.

I have spent a lot of time in Port Dover. I have been there at least once a year, in the last 25 years. I hope they still have the Fish festival. I think its the 3 weekednd in July.

I like to drop anchor out at long Point on Friday nights. Saturday morning I check the wind and decide whiich way to go.

Unless there is a small craft warning I go out into Lake Erie. Thats the advantage of having a 50 hp motor.

Those Fri 13th days are insane. Did you see the pics? Looks like thousands of bikers, all in one place. The OPP show up and just start taking video and pictures as a way of keeping track of who's who.

Are you interested in hiking over to Lk Ont this summer? We'd love the company.

I'd like to do Lk Erie also, just not this year, the calendar is filling up fast

Lake Erie Sailors,
I've sailed my Mac to Port Dover a few times - from Erie, PA and from Conneaut, OH. I have been tempted to duck into Port Rowan and explore the bay. The reason I have not is because my Richardson's shows that huge bay at only about 3-5 feet deep. I have also envisioned massive amounts of seaweed/algae, based upon what we have encountered passing by infront of the bay. Have any of you Lake Erie sailors gotten near Port Rowan? Is it as bad as I fear?

Re: Lake Ontario. We had an amazing sail there two years ago. We stayed in the area of the Thousand Islands. From Kingston, ON to Alexandria Bay, NY. If that is the area you decide to explore, try to time your trip so that it coincides with Annual Antique Boat Festival in Clayton, NY. There will be more beautifully-maintained and polished old wooden boats than you can imagine. Also, the wooden boats museum there is a "must visit" for any boater. Yes, most have motors, but they are really "cool', huge, old motors that anyone who tinkers will study in awe.

Port Rowan. From turkey Point its about 8 miles west into long point inner-bay. That whole inner bay is full fo lilly pad and sea weed. About 6-8 feet deep in the middle. There is a clear patch thru the inner bay all the way to port Rowan. I entered Port Rowan in daylight. Small town, a few restraunts and a beautiful beach on the Lake Erie side. I left after dark heading out to anchor the night at Long Point Lighthouse. A few miles from Turkey Point motoring about 5 mph I ran aground on a sandbar. I just threw out the anchor and went to sleep. In the morning I jumped into the bay and pulled the 26X along the shore line until I got to deep water.

Dave , living in Cincinatti, I hope you visit Sandusky Ohio and the Lake Erie Islands. Its a further drive for me, but has many more towns to visit. On the Canadian side is Peelee Island and Peelee Point, the southernest part of mainland canada, and the warmest water in the Great Lakes. I have anchored over there often.
