$4K might be a tad light, the quotes I gotten recently for a new 50 BF are all over 7K with install and cables and they insist that their dealer agreement forbids selling w/out install. Suzki's are a grand cheaper and you might get away with not paying the install/taxes if you can find an internet seller. There are some here who swear at and others who swear by the Suzki, then there is the lore of bigfoot.........
Honda outboards online
In 1999 when I bought my outboard, I found a Honda dealer in Canada http://www.esquirehonda.com/honda_marine.php just across the border with Michigan at http://www.saultstemarie.com. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have their online price list anymore.
..
I found that the Canadian Honda BF50 was $2K less than the USA price. I also found out that the USA dealers I contacted get upset about that price difference and take it out on the end user by denying service.
..
Then I visited the boat show where this brand new model 4 stroke fuel injected direct injection timing chain in oil bath etc.. outboard was being run in a small water tank. It was real quiet. There were two dealers near me, the one with most excellent service was not the closest to me but worth the extra drive. It was the Suzuki DF50, claimed to be quieter and more fuel efficient than the Honda and $1K less than the USA Honda. I was sold, and am very happy I selected the Suzuki.[/url]

I have 30HP 2 stroke Nissan. Every once a while I would like more power but in all situations I was OK with the power I have. My engine was strong enough to push me against 8kt currents and in choppy seas. From my experience I would rather have 30Hp four stroke than 50HP 2 stroke. My engine works as good as it can but it is noisy and stinky. I drool on quietness and nice idling of four stroke engines.
