Just was looking at the battery powered flood alarms that one would use around a hot water heater. This alarm is easy to move and could serve primary duty as a bilge alarm (will alarm for up to three days) and you could place it at the vent hole when filling ballast. My experience is that the
will fill above the vent hole in the collar. I know that I have done the dash back and forth from the V berth to stern and back while filling ballast by myself. Only about $12 on ebay (shipping inc.). I might just get me one.

Word of caution on those inexpensive flood alarms... we bought one for our basement when we had some water occsionally leaking in... it only lasted a few weeks before the water-sensor contacts rusted, making the unit entirely useless. It went out in the trash shortly thereafter and a lesson was learned.paj637 wrote:Just was looking at the battery powered flood alarms that one would use around a hot water heater.
