The helm is smooth as silk and indeed, the wheel stays in place when you release it. When I ordered mine from BWY the zero feedback unit was what they sent as a replacement for my Morse Unit. I think I would have prefered the standard unit with zero play instead ...
Thanks Don - good to know.

The tech I spoke with was very helpful. You should call them and describe your wish for zero play. He'll probably warn that it voids their warranty, but he might give you some hints.

Week before last I went out for a weekend and got to try the new steering.
Like Butta... especially with the motor disconnected.
The steering now has a nice positive feel. I was concerned that there may be so little feedback that the boat wouldn't round up if you let go the steering, but that wasn't the case. She doesn't come into the wind as quickly as a tiller boat, but she will nose into the wind with hand's off, and there's very little steering effort now.
I was feeling some unpleasant steering effort for a few minutes but that turned out to just be the rudder lines, they had become too loose and allowed the rudders to tip back a bit. I need to replace the springy rudder lines with maybe some 3/8" ones.
