There is some teak & holly vinyl that comes in hi-gloss or normal but it looks like it is higher than the real wood. Like $100-120 a yard(72" wide).

Well, as for the expansion of a floor in your home, yes, you do have to leave room because (1) you have a very large area to cover and there will be considerable expansion over that wide an area and (2) you aren't working with plywood, but normal grained wood and that tends to expand more. But on a small boat where you're only dealing with pieces around 3 feet wide you're not going to get a lot of expansion in total.

Here's how our new interior turned out. We're very happy with it. It has classed up the refrigerator black and white X.
The cushion covers, carpet, and organizers are from www.boatbimini.com . The cushion covers are the color "Teak" which is lighter than the "Buckskin" covers they show on their website. We feel they match perfectly with the edged berber carpet they sell which is darker in person than in their pictures. The covers all fit the foam (which we replaced with stiffer foam quite a few years back) with no problems. The only frustration was the new covers have the fuzz sewn to them as the factory have the hooks sewn to them. This meant I had to remove all the factory stuck on fuzz (the glue is strong and it was quite a task) and install the new stick on hooks they included with the covers. In the end it is fine, but this made more work than I expected.
I put the largest of the 3 organizers to port in the vee berth, and the smaller to starboard (we already have the galley taken care of with white wire organizers). The small vertical organizer is in the head forward of the sink. I like how they mount securely with snaps (although you do have to drill to install the bases). The bottom edge uses velcro. They are very well made and secure.
Of course the new colors meant we had to spend a few nights sewing new curtains and pillow covers to get the entire look the Admiral wanted. We needed fabric that tied together the new warm browns with the blue vee berth and aft berth cushions that are still there. We'll probably end up replacing the fabric galley front with a more coordinating color sunbrella face and maybe even go to a warmer wood table.
