We're alive and well--spent the week in New York harbor, did the Macy's fireworks on the Hudson last night with about 50 other boats (only two assholes!). Had to use an old navy evasive maneuver trick to avoid being hit by a cabin cruiser who decided they were done, turned around, hit the throttle, and then realized nobody else was moving. They got within 12" of us and I had to steer into them to pull my stern out of the way before they hit us. But fun times!

We will be going to Annapolis City Docks prior to the Muck on Monday because we're spending the week touring DC monuments and that's much closer. Then we will move over on I believe Thursday but I have to check my schedule. It's all arranged with the marinas.

I'll monitor this thread a bit more closely now...

It only takes 1 to pi$$ in your Cheerios and ruin the whole bow. It sounds like you all had a good time anyway and nice move avoiding the big Mac Bang, it might have left a mark.
Sounds like a great family vacation one the kids wont forget.

So funny thing about the fireworks on the Hudson: The coast guard auxiliary boat that was out riding herd on the forward limit line was a Mac 26X! Nice guys, had a bullhorn letting people know when to turn back so the harbor police could just watch without having to get too involved. Boats name was "Lotus" if anyone knows who that is.

It's a Macapalooza!

Okay, we will be putting in at Horn Point marina in Annapolis, near Annapolis city marina, on Monday the 8th. They've assured me that we can park our truck and trailer separately there and leave them no charge while we're out on the sail, which is why we picked them.

I expect we will be wandering over on Thursday evening for the kickoff festivities!

Crew is: Matt, Christy, Nathan (13), Seanna (11), and Kira (9). They're worried that there won't be any other kids-- Eric am I correct in assuming you're bringing yours? Anyone else with young ones?

Thanks all for all the help and for making this happen! It's been a fantastic trip so far (excepting Mosquitos) and we're looking forward to the sail!

Lynn and I are putting in at SPSP tomorrow late morning. We're heading south to either Selby Bay off the South River or the Rhode River to anchor depending on how late we leave SPSP. Then it's off to St Michaels Monday morning. We'll hook up with the group Thursday at the City Docks.

Potential trip busting disaster happened to yesterday. I was putting in large stone walkway and overdid my bad lower back. Right now I can barely move and need help from my wife just to get dressed. I need to work on the boat by Wednesday if I am going to make it. I don't know if anyone can swing by my house in Fort Washington MD to pick up the wood if I cant make it. This is going to suck if I cant go .

Oh no! Hope you get better quick!

Here's how I deal with lower back pain:

1) Acupuncture (with voltage) (kills most of the pain)
2) Get drunk (kills the rest of the pain, removes inhibition)
3) Go dance my butt off (puts lower back into place correctly)
4) Wake up next day with no (back) pain!

Also, I observe a "no lifting" rule within 12 months of any event to prevent just these sorts of things.

You know I don’t know if it is your grammar or is the drugs that I am on right now. I am having a little difficulty interpreting what you meant by this little bit that I can make out that you wrote:

Does this mean you are challenging maw to a all sail race and the looser has to where a dress at Miller Island. If that is the case let me know your favorite color and whether you want one with straps or do you want to go strapless ?

Last minute change: on our way to Horn Point, we called to finalize everything and they said they couldn't take credit cards, could reserve anything without payment, and were generally just not very setup to do business. So we got on the phone and wound up at Port Annapolis Marina, which we really like except for these bizarre "half docks" which don't float. No wonder everyone here backs in...

Anyway, we're here now with only minor incidents:

1) don't bungee the mast to the mast carrier. Bungees flex, allowing the mast to hop off while trailering. No damage.

2) don't forget to unpin you rudders at the ramp, and the speed off under motor only to find at the mouth of the marina fairway that you cannot drop them. Neutral, Open captain seat, sit on outboard, reach down, thank heaven you put a push ball quick pin on one side instead of a bolt and nylock, have boatus tow boat stop to ask if you need help, decline, get the pin out, go into the fairway with one rudder up, have another boater ask if you ran aground, and a third if your outboard died.

3) have a fourth boater ask what's wrong with your (down) mast, did you suffer a dismast, assure him it's okay, you'll raise it in the morning after you straighten the foot from an earlier incident where the mast went sideways while raising because the 2nd mate doesn't exactly know when the baby stay screw shackle is secure.

All quite fixable.

Matt, you might have problems straightening that mast plate if you can't get heat on it. You might have to call BWY for an expedited shipping. Maybe one of the marinas can help. BTW, Becon Sails is a great place to find new and used parts
