Wow Jim! You had your share of troubles this trip. When you didn't make it to Reid, I was beginning to wonder if your forestay problem came back. I'm sorry to hear that it was a different problem. Hopefully it won't require a full teardown.
Like 'Iwalani, Offline is back on her trailer and ready for the run home. We had a great time at every stop. Each of the places we stayed was different. The variety gave us a good feel for the flavor of the different islands. For sheer beauty, Genoa Bay is our hands down favorite; but Blakely Island is a close second. Any of you who missed Blakely need to make sure to add it to your next cruise. Fantastic little place.
Again, my thanks go out to Duane and Steve for pulling this together. Even though you were both unable to make it this time, your work helped us all prepare for a great time. I can't wait to finally meet each of you and shake your hand and buy you a beer. Cheers!!!

It's interesting to see the picture of Todd's black M posted above. I was in their shop yesterday and got some of the scoop on the boat. There's a lot more to it than just the black hull.
He had a lot of ideas that he brought to Roger and they put together the concept boat you see in the picture. You can't see it but the boat has 300lb lead bulb at the end of the dagger board. They added this and took out the fixed ballast around the daggerboard trunk (For those interested this was initially a big pour of resin only, but on all the later boats it is a mix of resin and sand) . He says the boat is as stiff with the bulb/board down and no water ballast as it was before with the water ballast in. Adding the water as well makes it really stand up. They took over 200lbs of glass out elsewhere as well by altering the laminate schedule of various parts. They dumped the heavy wood panels that wrap the head and went with light cored panels. The sails are carbon fiber laminate and the main's top two battens are full. The boat also has an articulating bow sprit for the spinnaker. The aft end of it attaches to a traveler so you can crank it more to windward. There are lot's of little things on it as well, like a ball bearing roller under the mast, lines that let you control when and how much the mast rotates
It will be interesting to see which trial things make it onto the future production boats.

Re: Pictures posted
Maybe it's just me, but I'm not able to open the CanAm folder. I'll try later to see if it's just a momentary problem.jklightner wrote:I've posted some pictures from the Can-Am 05 here:

I have their premium service. What it appears is that your briefcase area is rate-limited. After so many MB of data has been downloaded in a short time, the site won't send any more data.
Yahoo offers something similar to the briefcase, only for storing photos. It might be a bit better for what you are trying to do. For example, here is a photo album from a few years ago.
You might check into that service. Other than that, I'm sure there are several places out there where images can be uploaded.

Photos finally uploaded
My apologies for the long delay in getting these photos posted. I had started posting them on a server at work, but the person running that server left the company, and the server was shutdown.
I finally decided to use my Yahoo account to post them, as I was not getting anywhere finding a better place. You can view my slideshow of the trip by visiting my CanAm 2005 Album.
Once again, we had a great time, and are looking forward to a return visit, probably in a year or so.
