Yeah it tore down a four lane interstate 10 bridge that goes across Escambia Bay East of Pensacola. Suspect total destruction to waterfront in that area. Haven't seen any talking heads on the scene yet. The seem to be playing reruns from last night around Mobile where the storm was weak.

Hi, Don! It's an Alpine (1725cc, 4 speed w/ electric overdrive in 3rd &4th). That photo was taken at an auto show I attended.. the original, larger and more clear photo is HERE. (You can see the "Alpine" script on the side).

I used to have a Tiger, back when I was in college (boy, that was a long time ago!), but it was exactly the opposite colour scheme - black with red interior. The Tiger was a *very* fast car, but handled like a pig - the Alpine is far better balanced - still pretty quick and it's really fun to toss it into a corner and feel it go into a controlled drift.. it's easy to drive fast in this rocket.

I restored this car for the original owner - the wife had sent it to me to fix up whilst her husband was on a mission (he was in the Marines)... the car was almost completely rust free (rare in a Sunbeam) but I had to repair some minor crash damage.. then I gave it a hand-rubbed lacquer paint job, and also rebuilt the engine & trans along with some other minor repairs. Basically, it was like new when all done. Tragically, her husband was killed on that mission and so after keeping it for a while she eventually offered to sell it to me... knowing how good it was, I snapped it up and I've owned it now for over 20 years... can't sell it - it's one of the few open British sports cars that will carry our family of 4, plus it has an absolutely huge trunk for carrying all the kids stuff - in fact, I believe it has the record for the largest trunk in any British sports car.

kmclemore,

Thanks for getting back to me. Nice red ! Tragic story however.

A co worker of mine was into Sunbeams. Couple of Alpines and Tigers at the time. I hear you on the rust !

Yeah, I know.. she kept it a while to remember him - it was their honeymoon car - but she couldn't bear to drive it and that took its toll, so ultimately she needed to sell it... however, she made me promise I'd take good care of it in his memory - I think I've done well by her (and him). I do see her every long once in a while, but she never wants a ride. Sad story indeed. They never had kids, but she's always pleased to hear that my children enjoy the car.

Yes, we did fine... it hit well to our east, so all we got was some moderate rain and some downed tree branches. No significant damage.
