OK I am looking at that page... continue....
How are you thinking to make the attachment points?
How would you provide the room at the mast end???

Re: Roller furling main 26M
Thanks...I'll post a new thread for my idea...divecoz, I just couldn't help myself...
Cat, my idea would take some sewing...
Anyway, on topic (for THIS thread), those look like the devices that were shown on the furling genny/gennaker that someone recently posted...just a couple weeks back...it may have been in restless's topic about the jib/genny/gennaker/spinnaker/sideways-mounted-sail-a-chute , but I'm not sure... It linked two videos with the gennaker being furled around a rope, the guy laid it on the port side of the deck like a long snake, hooked the top up to the halyard and raised it, bottom was that little spinny-furler-thingy and they opened/closed the gennaker several times on the video...when done, the whole thing rolled up like a big snake and they lowered it and put it back on the deck...
I think the device would work for the furling, it's what you'd have to furl the sail AROUND that would be the question - and the fact that whatever you furl around has to be able to withstand the full force of the sail pulling on it...

Re: Roller furling main 26M
I purchased my 26m with the roller furling main last rear. It is already off the boat from the beginning of this season. It just doesn't work right For starters the sail gets jammed in the track so you still have to go forward to pull the sail down while spooling it in., which I was trying to avoid due to my age when I purchased the boat last year. While spooling the sail in you must constantly pull the sail aft along the boom to keep it from bunching. Finally at the end of the season I discovered that the top of the sail had ripped where it was fed into the mast. I have since installed a car and track system and will be installing a dutchman furling system in the fall The furler will be on ebay shortly and hopefully nobody will read this. Does anyone Know where I can get an original boom end cap as equipped without the furler?

Re: Roller furling main 26M
I really want to find a roller furling Main, unit. either added to the boom like Mike Inmon's or maybe a boom roller furling unit.. A mast unit is out of the question! I've been working on building my own furler Main unit. I can't seem to get in touch with Mike Inmon's company. does anyone have his contact info? also I want a unit that's overkill. I'd like to see a video of his boat out in some normal sailing conditions, not just tacking around the harbor in a light breeze.

Re: Roller furling main 26M
Hey mastreb - can you advise the guy on this because I think he mentioned physical ability and I think you have the most experience with that furler?
Muscle cut sails are great on heavy boats but the MAC is a tall rig and it can cause the boat to heel.
In mast furling is too much weight aloft for the MAC.
There is a ‘sort of’ mast furling system for the MAC but it’s really just a CDI furler like we have on the headsail except this one connects to the top of the mast to the boom. It’s very easy to use but the sail performs lousy.
Of all the boom furlers there are, if you must get one for your MAC the Inmon furler is by far the best option because it does not screw up the cut of the sail so there is no degradation of performance.
Mastreb bought LUNA SEA from Mike Inmon brand new with the roller furling main. I have also sailed the Mike Inmon roller furling main myself with Mike on the black factory boat in Newport Harbor.
Masteb has way more experience with the Mike Inmon furler than I do, but I have discussed it with mastreb over beers from time to time and this is what I can tell you:
mastreb removed his I'm pretty sure in the first year, and when I sailed with Mike I told him "I don't like that gadget" but i would have never said that if at the time I knew he was the inventor. My beef with the Inmon furler was never about it working or not - I was still physically able to handle a mainsail and because I am an old timer sailor I prefer the most simple rig. I just did not want all the setup and crap hanging from my boom and the trailering hassle.
But, aside from that - my experience was that the thing worked very well and did not degrade performance at all - the black boat was very responsive and had great acceleration. There is a trick to learning how to pull the lines just right to get the main up and down, but it does indeed work. Heavy winds is exactly where it would work the best because in heavy wind you can reef the main down to any infinite sizes and just laugh at the wind! The Inmon furler is a good thing for dealing with nasty winds because it allows you to reduce the sail from the cockpit very quickly.
In fact, the reason I don't need one is because here in Southern California the winds RARELY are so strong that we need to reef the main. It's just not needed here.
I think mastreb could add more to this in regards to the merits of the system.
