Gusts like that are NOT fun. NOT part of fun sailing.

Take down the sheets and motor home. Been there, done that. Not fun.
Sucks to be inland and part of the gusty wind thingy. Just keep an eye out for crazy water and take down the canvas when you see it.

I went sailing yesterday
Calling for gusts to 30kts

Left the dock with 1 reef in the main and planned on letting out as much headsail as I could

This is how it looked doing 5.5 to 6.3kts all day

Beene,
Your Mainsail is blown, get a 6 oz with double reef and teltails. Your engine is draging in water, can you raise it higher thru trim tilt?
Having a stiffer mainsail will allow you to beat to windward and will last a lot longer than stock 5 oz. Macgregor.
The C2000 has all the above and would be a good low cost sail if Hansen is still selling sails.

DaveB, please clarify exactly what you mean when you say Beene's mainsail is "blown". Although he didn't report his speed, it appeared that he was moving along really swiftly. . . . My ETEC 60 will not come completely out of the water either. Can't believe the little bit of it that drags makes much difference. Thanks.

Hi Dave

"Beene,
Your Mainsail is blown, "

Probably, but cant be sure if it need replacing just yet. In that video I had to sheet out for a gust at that moment, so hard to tell what state she is in.
But it does the job for now. Still hitting the boats max as far as I can tell.
But you are quite right about the stock sails.
Some day, just not yet.

"Your engine is draging in water, can you raise it higher thru trim tilt?"
Nope, not even close, Merc 75 4s with a 1600cc head 4cyl... not going to happen.

"Having a stiffer mainsail will allow you to beat to windward and will last a lot longer than stock 5 oz. Macgregor."
Agreed

"The C2000 has all the above and would be a good low cost sail if Hansen is still selling sails."
A bit worried about him, not sure he is still in business.
Will most likely have to find one somewhere else now.
