You could run the fuel line in a Plastic tubeing as a chafe guard and if line did leak fuel it would be contained in the caseing.
The under structure is raw fiberglass and not smooth.

To me, this is the only concern about the installation - making sure you have chafe protection at all points where the hose to the back could spend time rubbing the fiberglass hull or liner. It would not be obvious to a quick inspection because it would be between the hose and hull (or liner), so a thorough periodic inspection would be the only way to find a chafing spot.
Alternatively, you could run stainless tubing to the back, then pick up as hose again to snake your way to the engine...at least the chafing concerns would be minimized, as well as the accidental drop of a tool or the corner of a storage box.
But otherwise, MOST boats that carry fuel for real (meaning power boats) have internal tanks of some kind set up very much like this...it is not a real safety issue if installed correctly and maintained.

True - I was thinking that even a garden hose would work fine for chafe protection, and would be cheap to replace...but I think I would personally use clear PVC tubing just so I could see through it to the fuel line...either way, it would just be to have a "sacrificial chafe absorber" between the fuel line and the fiberglass. On more expensive boats, they actually use stand-off's and tubing guides and all of that to keep it from contacting...not necessary on our boats, but the reasoning behind it is still valid.

Phil - I think you're right, that most of the time the tanks are in the stern and the sleeping quarters are in the front. I was thinking of walk-around and cuddy-cabin designs for the most part, which are a blend of boat types with limited space for things like fuel tanks.

I found the Tempo LPT 12 gallon tanks at captainsurplus on e-bay (Marine Surplus inc). They have 3 left @ $69-95.

Trouble is...the postage is almost as much as the price, when you live in the UK!
