My dealer, Havencraft, told me to tie a bowline in the hole for raising the rudder and have it towards the rear of the rudder. This provides sufficient leverage to raise the rudders on my 2000 26X with little difficulty.

That is the standard, yes. And it is what I have now.

So, after all this designing and failed attempts to contact various metal-formers, I went to the Metal Supermarket and got a scrap of 1 1/2" aluminum channel. It's not really deep enough - it really needs to be closer to 2", but it seems to be working.
And, just for fun, I put in a block for a 2:1 advantage as well.
