Re: Second Motor(Kicker) on 26M
And yes that was me taking a stroll down the low road I apologize.

Re: Second Motor(Kicker) on 26M
I made an emergency kicker bracket for a Suzuki 2.5hp. It mounts in place of the swim ladder on our 26M, using the swim ladder brackets for the mount. The boom vang is connected between the stern rail seat and the kicker bracket to adjust the height of the bracket. The starboard rudder needs to be down to clear the kicker. With no wind or current, full ballast and loaded down for a 10-day trip, the Suzuki 2.5hp pushed us 3.5 knots at about half throttle. Full throttle didn't make the boat go any faster, just made more noise.

Re: Second Motor(Kicker) on 26M
Glad we can all get along.
& Bob Happy Belated Father's day to you x2. & all the best to Momma Admiral.
Ok, not trying to hijack thread here, but need some answers. I did the 2S motor mount on my
starboard side, years ago.
& because of this and another near topic thread I picked up [another] 5HP kicker, Merc 4S long shaft, this time. What is the danger or what could happen using this with a 4s 5HP?

Just to be clear those aren't my videos (I do have Youtube videos but the above aren't mine). I just like them cause it's close to home; the fact he does all his own music for them as well as the production value on those is way higher than I've got time or talent forNeo wrote:If you're getting married somewhere on the "Inside Passage" .... Thanks Gaz! Ethan born at 10:12pm PT (just home letting the dogs out and grabbing a bite) As for the mount see if you can recover the specs for it (max weight/thrust) and go from there.Gazmn wrote:Glad we can all get along.

I am going up to the marina tomorrow and try to get my 60hp E-Tek going again. Will report results.

My 2 cent opinion is as long as its backed solid its fine with a 5hp 4S. You are not using it for everyday use. If it was higher HP & your primary motor used all the time would be different.because of this and another near topic thread I picked up [another] 5HP kicker, Merc 4S long shaft, this time. A friend with a catalina 25 was asking about my jack plate. He has a big 25" shaft yamaha 9.9 4S on an ancient basic 2S mount and it works. Its a bit wobbly and jumps around when docking.

The space is tight, however, when hard starboard there is no interference.

A bit wobbly
If u go on the net & check out all the customer reviews on all the diff brkt,s u,ll read that the guy,s who bought them for use on a 4 stroke with the bigger boats like our,s all had issues with the brkt,s twisting as the 2 stroke brkt,s r essentially just 2 alum. flat bars 1/4" X 1 1/4" wide & only approx 1/4" apart this is their weak point , the 4 stroke brkt,s r approx 2 1/2" or bigger U channel with a much wider stance to resist twisting from the torq off a 4 stroke eng. these r the two support lifting bars
Now if u already have one on ur boat & want too move up to a bigger 4 stroke from a smaller 2 stroke , I think u could poss. add 2 adj.sway bars from the hull on an
Just saying if I,m gonna do it I,m doing it once !
Ur boat ur option , but on resale if it does not work well or right it,s not a selling asset !
K My rant is over now , too each their own

O.k ,I think I bought a tohatsu sail pro 6 horse .im gonna use my garelick bracket but I think I'm gonna order the piece that it slides into so if I don't want it hanging off back of the boat It will be removable.when I set this up should the kicker prop be even with my etec motor just for reference (don't want it popping out of the water if we get little wave action .

Re: Second Motor(Kicker) on 26M
Plot thickens ,just got email from a motor I had emailed about and asked if I was still interested .brand new in the box mercury 9.9 4 stoke electric start and controls for 1500.00 or a 6 moth old sail pro 6 horse tohatsu for 900.00 ???? Confused .i would have buy the 4 stroke bracket for the 9.9 .both are made by tohatsu .the big foot mercury is swinging a huge prop .

Re: Second Motor(Kicker) on 26M
I,d say Ideally u want it to be just far enough up in the up position that it just clears the water so as to give u as much depth in the water as possible when in the down position if u can get it deeper than ur main eng. I,d think that would be good as it would keep the prop in the water more when the boat is rolling in waves just my though , but maybe someone who has already done this Mod would have a better INFO !

Re: Second Motor(Kicker) on 26M
For those without stern rail seats looking for somewhere to store a dinghy motor on the M, a few stainless bimini fittings and a bit of one inch tube is all you need to make a nice pulpit on the M which does the job.

But I too have been racking my brains as to how to use my 2hp dink motor as backup for the ETEC. I was thinking of something that could bolt to the swim ladder (with it in the up position), but Jillybean, What you have done sounds like the go, two bolts to take the ladder off and put something in its place on the brackets to mount the kicker.
Any chance of posting some photos of how you did this?
cheers,
P

Re: Second Motor(Kicker) on 26M
I was thinking about making a bracket on top of the main engine and attach the auxiliary to that. That would have the advantage of being able to actually steer it from the cockpit and use the rudders to your advantage.
I saw advertised somewhere a similar type of bracket that puts the auxiliary engine behind the main one, but I thought more along the lines of making a basket-like structure that goes on top of the main engine. I guess a person with an engineering vision (which I totally lack) could fashion one with some pieces of sturdy plastic. The additional weight to the main engine wouldn't be a problem for us pussies who hover around the 50 HP.
