If the vent is open, so as to allow the flow of air, the cap will spill gasoline if you are heeled far enough. So, if the weather is not real hot, close the vent while sailing. Open it while motoring. If you leave the vent closed in hot weather, you run the risk of the tank inflating like a balloon. Trust me on this :D :D

P.S. I don't know anyone (including ME) who disputes that the boat sails quicker flatter, as opposed to really really really heeled. It's just fun, and fun is part of sailing. Remember the 3SW Rule:Some Will, Some Won't, So What. There is room for us all :wink:
