If the vent is open, so as to allow the flow of air, the cap will spill gasoline if you are heeled far enough. So, if the weather is not real hot, close the vent while sailing. Open it while motoring. If you leave the vent closed in hot weather, you run the risk of the tank inflating like a balloon. Trust me on thisNiceAft wrote:Check out your gas cap really well. You just may be overlooking in the center of it there is a protrusion that is turned counter clockwise; at least that's how to do it on my 2005M. This opens the vent. It is easy to miss this function of the cap.

P.S. I don't know anyone (including ME) who disputes that the boat sails quicker flatter, as opposed to really really really heeled. It's just fun, and fun is part of sailing. Remember the 3SW Rule:Some Will, Some Won't, So What. There is room for us all
