Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
We bought a new Honda 60 in late 2015. Used it a few times in 2015 as we prepared for the great loop. After completing the loop in 2016 we had traveled 5824 miles and there was 860 hours on the engine. It was about 30/70 salt and fresh water. The two internal anodes were pretty much gone. I will look for pictures but they were used up. Hope this helps. I have no idea what came with the motor. We will have the Honda overhauled in January 2021 as we prepare for the "triangle loop" that summer. I will post then when we get the anodes out.

Cool...
Yes.. I bet my internal anodes were never changed.. and basically non-existant.
I have ordered a set..
and have a laundry list of "small stuff that needs doing" for the motor.
Although I am sure its in excellent shape overall.

Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
Just received my anodes.. not good weather to install them, but I was shocked at how substantial they were. Much bigger than I thought.

Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
I just installed my 3 anodes.
1 was on the side of the motor.. stuck but easy to get to.
2 were under a plastic cover by the spark plugs, of the 2, one was easy to remove, one was really stuck and took some time to slowly work it out
They weighed NOTHING.. compared to the originals. One even had all the rubber boot destroyed.
Good thing I replaced them, although , being a 2005 motor, I would think they were done before.

Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
Would anyone here be able to tell me the location of 2001 Suzuki DF 50 internal anodes?
I have the spare anode kit, 3 external anodes and 4 internal ones. The external ones are very easy to spot but I cannot figure out where the internal ones are located.
I find a lot of videos telling the location of internal anodes in the larger Suzukis but nothing about this one. Even the service manual tells the location of the 3 external anodes but not a word about the internal ones.
Could it be that there is no internal anodes in this one?!? the spare anode kits specific for this motor certainly have 4 little round anodes in addition to the 3 external anodes that are easy to find.

Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
I just replaced 2 anodes on my Suzi DF70. Easy to spot. Youtube videos helped. Can you post a pic of your engine? Might help identify where?

Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
Thank you for the reply. Below a couple of pics. All help appreciated.
I know many, if not the most 4 stroke outboards die due to internal anodes eventually wearing out.

Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
Should be starboard side behind that vertical hose.
BTW, I learned there are different materials for anodes depending on the type of water you boat in. Fresh/brackish/salt water.

Thanks a lot! A bit embarrassing if this is really so simple. Will try to get to the boat again tomorrow. Will report asap.

Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
It is true.. some motors do not have internal anodes...
WHen I contacted my dealer, they never heard of my O/B having any.. yet the manual does mention them as " standard maint. item"
He said he called HIS rep.. and they never sold any in years..
(Until I bought them this year!..LOL)

Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
Finally made it to the boat. Sorry for the delay and thanks for the comments.
Below pics from behind the hose. No anodes there either. I recall this df50 is MY 2000. Checked 2005 df40 which I thought was basically same but yo my surprise it did have anodes behind the hose! So the pics below of the -00 df50.
Perhaps it does not have internal anodes then?!?
All further comments welcome. Would definitely want to change the anodes if they exist.

Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
It's possible there are none. I'm no expert on outboard motors, but I've never heard of anodes until recently. I changed mine this year, after 12 years, but they looked fine and probably didn't need to be replaced.

Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
The parts book for my 25 yr old Tohatsu 40 2 stroke shows a internal anode but doesn't show where it is, so I check a service manual and you have to remove the cylinder head to get at it
. Are you kidding, the motor runs like a charm, maybe if I had to replace rings and pistons
. Not going to happen. What a silly design

WOW.. remove the head!
Not like you could pull up to a sandbar and do that!!
Not cool of the Mfg...
Are you in salt water?
Depending on the metal they used.. and the water your in .. may last long.. or not..

Re: Check your outboard internal anodes
Mostly fresh maybe 2 or 3 weekends a year with the MYCBC. Had the boat and original motor since 1996 and it still runs strong, with alot of hours trolling. And it's a 2 stroke
