Not all that complicated considering the various “let’s try and drown ourselves” episodes observed
.There’s nothing new under the sun as the saying goes, the slide type engine holder should work reasonably well with fewer parts and more simplicity as compared to those spring loaded parallelogram types. So not worried on that portion. Thinking I’d use the same type of rail and slide plates I used for our removable sonar transducer (which has been working out beautifully
). Plenty strong enough if two rails were mounted side-by-side and the mounting screws are backed up with fender washers on the inside of the hull.The Davit portion and getting it to compactly fold away while using commercial of the shelf (COTS) components is actually not as difficult as I had anticipated nor as expensive!
There are several vendors currently offering the type of tube and fittings I’d need. The self cinching block and tackle is also pretty much a COTS item as far as sailing hardware goes. as far as where to mount it the starboard stern rail looks promising with the addition of a drop brace leg/socket on that aft corner.Yeah! The frictionless aspect of a dinghy on water is a prime concern. I’m open to ideas.
At the moment I’m sorta leaning towards the concept of placing the dinghy along the starboard side of the cockpit with the dinghy bow facing forward. Tie one line from the dinghy bow line to the starboard bow rail and a second line to our (new) mid-cleat. A third line from the aft port side of the dinghy over to the starboard eyelet I’d screw into our G10 engine mount plate. That should help some with the control of the relative motion between the dinghy and Over Easy. Not much that I can see to be done about wave action though except to arrange things to be on the leeward side if at all possible.

The whole process of getting an auxiliary engine to act as both a boat kicker and as a dinghy motor is complicated process! It’s why it’s a paper chase for now . My big aspect is the benefit/cost/weight-analysis evaluation… limited benefit under normal circumstances (at the present time anyway), considerable cost and there is a measurable weight impact to contend with. That trolling motor idea is gaining traction over that of the gas engine…
