My main concern was that you had any question as to how the mast was being supported. The "X" (which I'm intimately familiar with) has an obvious, stainless steel compression post in the cabin. I was concerned that a previous owner may have removed a very important feature on your boat without realizing its function.

Yes sir, that was my concern as well.

Thank you for your questions, forcing me to think, investigate, and learn. It has put my mind at rest running down the rabbit hole and tracing every thought.

By the time you finish you will thoroughly understand every system on the boat and I would not really feel like a boat was mine until I had examined every part of it.

I can't wait until you start on the electrical.

Lol, as long as it floats upright and the mast doesn't come crashing down, I think I will be 99.9% there. Not worried about electrical. I have a mostly contained electrical system in the p19 that I plan on moving to the M29s. (Another time and another thread)

If it's mostly original it's not complicated.

If memory serves, the "X" immediately followed the "S" so I would not be surprised if your wiring is also lamp cord and a negative bus made out of a nut and bolt.

I could see that... I'm a fan of simplicity. If it works, it works.

I have dipped into the electronics a bit. Its a mess. But its not required to float or keep the mast up. A story for another thread though.

You can go down some very deep rabbit holes with electrical and electronic modifications that are not required or even particularly recommended when you are first getting to know your new boat.

You should at least take a look at what you have to make sure that some PO has not done anything foolish, or even worse, dangerous. Beyond that, just fix anything that is unsafe or required and go sailing. The boat will let you know what else it needs.
