Chip, I beg to differ. The only time the board slams or chucks is when stationary either at anchor or at the dock, or when powering with the board down.
Tacks, hard gybes, sailing downwind, sailing through big chop all cause the DB to unwedge and cause the leading/trailing edges to slam inside the trunk, sometimes quite hard. It is a very different beast than the CB. Also, pulling the board up while the current is putting pressure on it will cause some friction withink the trunk.
I like your way of thinking FrankJust one opinion ... Macgregor should probably pay for Leon's after-market board
Richard,I "had " anticipated adding 10 to 15 pounds of lead shot to my board this spring
That amount of weight is probably not worth the effort. At least 50, according to BWY is a "noticeable differnece." From my experience, I don't think the board structure can take it. Take out your board and put your finger into the little hole for water to enter & exit. The fiberglass is paper thin. I did have a chance to see the inside of the DB, unfortunately. The very center, in the thickest part of the board has a corss sectin of reinfoced fiberglass. This are seems fairly strong. The rest is quite thin and flimsy.
