THis may even be in Chapmans or one of the other bibles...statute miles are the preferred units inland as pointed out above, and nautical miles coastal and offshore - Ive found most 'salty sailors' I run into on the Cape dont know this, and dont take well to being told....the ones who do take well are the ones to hang with...

Et Tu Brunei???
On edit - corrected below, we are still in good company though....

Well, this got me looking at my charts, it appears that inland/mixed including the ICW and Rivers (St. Johns) are in both Nautical and Statue, but the coastals ones I have are in Nautical only.bobmonroe wrote:I wasn't going to get into this BUT,
The intracoastal waterway from Norfolk to
Key West is measured in statute miles,
5 mile increments, official charts.
For me, mostly moot since I have the GPS that easily converts either, but the charts are a must back up.
Take care.
best michigan prop for a df50.
I tested out my 113/4 X 12 pitch prop finally. I think the best michigan wheel prop is a 113/4 X 11 pitch. (or 12X11) I got 7300 rpms on my X10 and I got only 6K on my 12 pitch. Thats with ballast empty and only me onboard. I got 15 kts (got a new marine gps) average. With water ballast I got about 12 kts average. But at 5800K. Just like everyone said and I agree the 113/4 (or 12 if they still make them) X 11 is right for the X and the df50.
happy sailing

rpms
When I first took the df50 out I didn't want to take it past 5500K. With research and trying different props its like ... this ain't a Harley. She does the best over 6K.

Hmmm.. well, that's not entirely true. There are also some countries that are "half-way" adopters of the metric system. For example, in the UK they still use "stones" to measure human body weight in some regions, and for road distance they still use the mile, not the kilometer.eric3a wrote:![]()
I had to look it up, but Wikipedia says:And of course seems Mars was metric too!Three countries use non-metric measurement systems; Liberia, Myanmar, and the United States.
Eric
Daver 360 go for bigger prop area
I did best on my Mac26X and Suzuki DF50 with a 12.25 x 9 pitch three bladed prop. OR the four bladed 11.8 x 9 pitch. Both would get 6800 RPMs with ballast empty and 6200 to 6400 RPMs with ballast full on smooth water without much wind. The big diameter props have a much better grip on the water and are great around the dock too.
