Judith and I also went by Art's to look at my "next boat". Sorry we missed you. Art spent alot of time with us and I am giving the 280 serious consideration for my next upgrade.

Sorry we missed you. I wish the 270 had a wheel option but it's only offered with a tiller. The 270 looks like it could be a fast cruiser. Check your PM.

Personally, I bought several items from Art: Pentex genoa and teak & holly cabin floors. Both products are excellent quality and a great value. Art's service was also very good. I would advise anyone reading any negative comments posted by others to take them with a big grain of salt.

Art, I'll check you out at the boat show in Oakland. Looking forward to sailing on one of your Freedom boats.

We are starting to get real excited about the Oakland Strictly Sail show in April.

All five models will be there and will be in the water. Show management has created a small problem for us though. We intended to offer demo sails on all five but they came back and said three max. So two will be in in the water for viewing and three will sail. Its going to be a hard to decide which three get the honors.

Look forward to meeting you and going out for a sail.

I picked out the 25 ft and equipped with trailer and 15 hp engine it was $62,000
It looks nicer than an "m" but not $40,000 nicer.

Comparing the F-250 and the 26M is apples to oranges. Especially when you haven't seen, boarded or sailed the F-250.

To say the F-250 isn't $40,000 "nicer" than a 26M really isn't a fair statement. I would invite you to look at the standard equipment on the F-250 and then compare it to the 26M. Then look at how each boat is contructed and the quality of materials and hardware that is used.

Your $60K price included every option available for the F-250 yet you did not factor these costs into the price of the Mac. In reality, the difference in cost between the two boats is around $15K.

The F-250c was never designed or built to compete with the Mac. One is a powersailor and the other is a sailboat. However, it was designed to compete against the following:

Com Pac 23 & 25
Catalina 250
Hunter 250
Hake/Seaward 26

I think you will agree this is a more appropriate group of boats to compare the F-250 against.

I have no problems whatsoever with the 26M. I personally love the boat and am proud to be one of the largest MacGregor dealers in the country.

I'm pretty sure that's all real wood on the inside. I think he uses one of two types: mahogony or something else like ash?

Technically it might require a permit but would you really get a permit?

Are there any pictures of theses boats on the internet somewhere. The site has some CAD drawings but no real pics??

With a legal width of 8'6" I am only over by 4", not a whole lot and if I had tow mirrors sticking out that far it would be a non-issue. I have heard about many folks who don't bother with a permit up to 9' and a few at 10' and for the very short distance I would tow I might not bother despite the fact that they are very easily and readily available. There is only one consideration that would influence my decision and that consiseration is Insurance. Not sure just how far I would tow without legal authorization, could null & void my insurance.

Good point. The reason I'm asking is that I really like this boat but want to be able to tow it without hassles.

Perhaps, the dealer can provide all of this information.
