Kevin has been taking all the heat for this dust-up and it was none of his doing, I was the Mod that moved the thread. As Moderators, one of our jobs is "housekeeping", ie: Keeping topics in the proper forums in order to make the archives a more searchable database. It was my judgement alone that this was a topic that dealt with a trip to a specific destination, so I moved to the " Destinations, Clubs, Events and Venues" sub forum. Perhaps I should have sent a PM indicating what was happening, but that is not SOP and is not normally needed. If I offended the OP, I apologize, but it was not censorship.

Doupirate wrote: One thing I learned about the sea, is you really need your centerboard completly deployed while sailing, even if you sail downind or crosswind, or even motoring in the waves. The reason is you need the boat being at rest if you want to deploy the board. The wind picking-up, under sails, in 6 to 9 feet waves, coming to rest is easier said than done. The board slows the rolling of the boat quite a lot. So if you start, say downwind and the wind becomes stronger to the point you want to take the main down and continue with the genoa alone ( the boat does not heel as much) you will have a real hard time taking the main down as the boat will roll like creazy as you try to point into the wind.
I agree with the roll control of the CB down in smaller waves (<5ft), but I also find that when starting to surf the larger waves she tends to heel much more dramatically when the speed picks up (with the CB down), also there is more potential to round up with CB down on a run. The CB will go down under way (not right away but within a min or two) I just let out however much I need and wait. It'll usually drop in the trough.
Nice trip by the way. Don't get a chance to sail offshore here too often. Gonna try and make time for it next year one way or another cause I didn't get to this year

I guess I should have wrote it in english as well. Just thought going to Doupirate's main language was better for extending the olive branch.
You guys eventually got it all translated

Let's hear it for crowd-sourcing!
It was a great thread regardless of what category it belongs and a heck of a voyage for a Mac.

When I encounter a new piece of technology, or anything else, I judge it on how easily I can use it without any instruction – that is, how intuitive it is to use. This is not at all a reflection on my own skills, but rather is a reflection of the competence of those responsible for the logical design of the product or service.
Along that same vein - when I went to find this particular thread and found it was off the main page, I found it in the first place I automatically looked; the " Destinations, Clubs, Events and Venues" sub-heading. Very logical and intuitive.
I bring this up to give external confirmation that what is being done, works. (ie. good judgment, Rich).

Yeah, right.
Try telling a long time Mac user that Windows is easy to use.
And then there is some software ( GiMP for example) that defy intuition and logic.
Sorry, off thread rant ...

I sold my Mac. Bought an Alubat Ovni 33 (35 footer) and brought it in Canada from France (aluminum). Preparing to leave for the South Pole.

Too small for South trip, not enough stowage. Now maybe if you tow the Mac behind....

No need to speak French to clearly understand what is going on in this video.
I will provision on the way, and will not go there non stop. Stowage is not an issue. I travel with my little cat as my only crew.
But this young fellow did it with only one stop and is still alive! He tried to do it around the world solo non stop three times, but failed each time. The last atempt, he pumped, capsized, for 40 minutes before his mast finally broke and he could come-back up. His boat is slightly smaller than mine.
