Tip 3, Look where you are going!!

Ray gave that tip to me as well. Good idea to have a "handle" to grab the boat from on the dock.


Use a piece of wire (preferably stainless) to lock the anchor shackle so it can't unscrew. Same with rigging shackles like the headstay.

Toss a dryer fabric softener sheet in your bedding to keep it smelling nice and repel insects. Also toss them in bilge areas for same reason.

Make sure you have fresh limes to go with the Tequila

Never use the "aft head" while running.

A Medium sized cooler makes a nice elevated captains seat when maneuvering in tight or congested areas and you need a real good view.

Oh yeah, when your boat is on the trailer, always make sure to raise the transom swim ladder before you back up. Mine is slightly "contoured" now.

Make sure your mast raising pole on your is not tied to your mast when lowering the mast. It will bend the step plate completely out of shape and you will wonder why the mast does'nt weigh much until it lets go with a bang and drops about 4 feet......ask me how I know

Find a good Ale that you like to keep aboard. Ales are best served at 68 degrees, and therefore don't require a coldbox or fridge. Also the bitterness slows you way down and keeps you from over-indulging. India Pale Ales are so named because they were brewed specifically to be kept at room temperature of the holds beneath the waterline on British merchant ships transiting to India.

Also get the Admiral to find a red wine she likes for the same reason. A slight change in food and drink preferences can eliminate most of your power draw.

In Canada, our waters are generally a bit cooler, and beer that is stowed in the bilge area is almost cool to drink without any refrigeration. But the beer is both stronger AND better tasting, so be careful.
