There are apparently Mac owners writing in. At least one of them kept their boat after buying a "real" sailboat (that is our intention).

Not a site to visit for the weak-stomached, and the language used would probably not pass muster with most HR departments, to put it mildly...

They start about two levels lower than our 'Back Room'....and go down from there..

Reminds me of how a friend's two-year-old daughter cleared the swimming pool last weekend.

Actually, it makes me think of a whole pool-full of drunk adults "clearing the swimming pool" that way - and continuing to swim, whooping with inebriated laughter and making half-baked wisecracks all the way.

there are some good ideas, tips and insights interspersed on SA

but sadly, it is not worth the time to look for them on there.

Even the best boat designers go in there occasionally to vent steam.

I just wish I could afford the time to find real info in there that helps me.

But this site, hunterowners.com, and NETS and a few others have more tips in fewer pages than anything SA offers.

Many contributors go to SA to ridicule, insult, and harass. and like most people, I can only stomach only so much.

There was a reason I kicked those peoples tails in high school, and I found out bullies dont like people that fight back.

And as well while some legitimate boat owners do post there and many that post have significant sailing knowledge, maybe ability. In all likelihood, most of the more aggressive posters on there are young and haven't earned the coin to buy a real boat. Probably still sailing the Snark their pops bought them when they cant sponge a ride or crew a real boat.

Well done Victor but I think you were wasting your time there.

It is very difficult to convince somebody of something when they have no idea what they are talking about in the first place.

Doubtless not too many if any of the posters there on SA have seen on board a MAC let alone sailed on one. You can tell by the responses that there is not much knowledge between them and most of their comments were a product of hearsay.

When I read posts like that I just chuckle and think that I will be out sailing and powering along this weekend whilst most of them will still be sitting in front of their computers talking s#@% on SA

I actually almost got into a fist fight with this Douche that my wife works with last Halloween. Now mind you I have not bought a Mac nor have I sailed a Mac yet. I was DDing for some friends and my wife while they were at a bar. Being sober and bored I was making conversation with whoever was around. My wife introduced me to this "friend" and said he was into sailing. This started me talking about sailing when I was stationed in HI and that I was hoping to get a sailboat soon. I mentioned that I was really looking hard at a Mac. Before I finished my sentence he was going on about what a crappy boat it was. We went back and forth for a few minutes. I wasn't even really defending the Mac other than saying a) you could hang a big ass engine on it and b) I don't care if it sails beautifully, it sails and has everything I'm looking for in a boat (minus a shower and swim platform, easy fixes). He was getting up in my face and getting closer and closer to the same language and arguments the SA folks use. Luckily I was stone cold sober and ended the conversation with out decking him. I figured he was some big experienced sailor with a big 30+ foot boat. Found out a few months later that he owned and sailed a 22ft Catalina as his "Yacht". Laughed my ass off for awhile about that one.

I hear you. I posted what I thought was a pretty level headed argument for the Mac on that page, and you should see the immediate reply I got. I won't post it on here as it is definately inapropriate for this forum. Suffice to say the poster clearly showed his maturity and intelligence level. I don't understand why people feel it is worthwile to expend so much time and energy bashing somebody else's boat choice. (sadly, including all the X vs M guys) If you don't like the Mac, don't buy one. Seems pretty simple to me. I for one love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything out there.

Bet it was too potty-mouth for our Back Room, from what I saw when I trolled SA the other day.

It is truly amazing that so many people get such jollies about bashing the other guy on-line. "X vs. M" as practiced on this board is gentle teasing compared to those guys dumping their Sani-Potties on the other guy's deck.

Some day, I'd like more boat. Today, Bossa Nova is perfect for me.

I would like to update my unhappy Mac owner status to very happy Mac owner.
As of Tuesday my boat is now in the Hudson River, on it's mooring, ready for some Fall time sailing.

Regarding the SA site... People always knock what they don't understand, it's natural human behavior. Mac people don't knock keelboats. Live and let live, apart from the occasional idiot...

Careful now, My "Yacht " is a 22 foot Catalina!

We wanted a Mac for 2 years before we bought one,bought it new last year and we are already planning for our next sailboat a Hunter or Catalina at least 38 feet. (our retirement home). Most sailboat owners I meet are impressed with the Mac26 once they see it live and in person.

You're a golden example of what a fellow sailor with a different kind of boat CAN be - helpful, interested, ready with his own informed opinion, and just an all-around good neighbor. By corollary, you obviously see MacGregorSailors as the kind of folks you want to hang out with online - you must see a lot of value in this board and its netizens.
