I have 2 batteries and a combiner as seen.http://www.electrical-res.com/EX/10-16- ... .sized.jpg
When I'm sailing I put in on battery no1 on day 1 and then battery no.2 on day 2. When I'm motoring I put it on both. This works well as I have had the experience of discharging 1 battery when after a day of sailing I tried to start the battery for half an hour with the kill switch tidily put away below decks, switched to battery 2 and off we went.
