As our brand of boat continues to strive for legitimacy in the sailing world, why are we trying to jump the shark??

Seriously, I like several features of the Etec line. While a 90 is, for the most part satisfactory. I'd like over 20mph even with ballast in.
Try calling Jason (Blue Ridge Propellers Dynamics
http://www.brpdynamics.com ) before you give up. Do you have rough bottom paint?

Cuz it's a powersailor
Like I said earlier.... not all owners of the X and m want speed.
Same are happy with a kicker and just want to sail.
Which is totally cool
Then there are those of us that want to maximize what the hybrid capabilites of our boat can accomplish.
I want the best of both worlds I can squeeze out of my mac.
I have spent several bucks making it the best sailing craft she can be
But also want the best power boat performance I can get
If I could get the etec pontoon 150... I would without hesitation.

I am striving for legitimacy, K9.
But on my terms, not the terms of others. [I've also noticed I often get on my >mph pitty pot at the end of each short season.] But that just underscores, life is short- Play Hard.
We have a great concept boat. Sail when you want to sail, power when you want to power. & really, noone has done this better than MacGregor. We don't boat like other people who are pigeonholed in 1 of 2 camps - unless they have a power boat & a sailboat.
I want more speed for cruising or to rush home from sailing. & I think we as powersailors have set our sights too low for cruising mph. I am not under warrantee, & not looking to get anyone or myself hurt. & how many here have actually had to rope start their outboard from an emergency... [Hearing crickets - No reply...]
I've done the ICW in a 44' Hunter at 6Kts & kicked myself for not having my

@ 15kts.
I'm simply putting it out there to our lurkers & bretheren considering repowering. Think outside the box that we've placed ourselves in.
Consider 3 digit HP, >V4 engines and prices if you have a speed/ cruise itch you can't otherwise scratch.
I, too, "want the best of both worlds I can squeeze out of my Mac."

Thx Victor
P. S. I have layers of ablative.

Gazmn- I was looking at the issue from the perspective of solving a legit problem. I don't consider being first back to the beer dock or running from the weather as legit problems to be solved with triple digit HP.
Upsizing from the manfs design intent of 50 HP to 150 HP is a good way to discover what this boat wasn't designed for - IMO. More than double the weight on the transom, how the weight / speed affects the hull structural integrity, roll characteristics of weight / speed of round chine hull are just basic safety concerns.
Higher HP / heavier engine = more speed / less range... add larger fuel capacity for more range = more weight requiring more HP, etc...
Jumping from 18mph WOT to 20 mph over say a 5 mile distance will save 1 minute, 18 mph to 22 mph saves 3 minutes, 18mph to 28 mph saves 5 minutes. How much beer at the dock is gonna be missed out on in 1, 3, 5 minutes? I jus don't relate to those variables / concerns. If I did, I'd stick a mast, swing keel and ballast tanks on a Donzi 22 Classic and blow yer doors off!!
Tossing liberal amounts of HP & $$$ at something is bound to solve any problem!

You have several valid points K9 -
Minus the beer for me, I much prefer aged rum or Capt Morgans
I really appreciate this dialogue, either way.
Havent heard from shop yet...
& just to clarify, I Like the V6 135/150; but it'll most likely be the V4 115. Consolation prize is my NC 2010 90.
Life's pretty good, having choices

LOL comparing 18mph to 28mph, I regularly see people debating ways to gain less than half a knot on this forum, what could possibly be wrong with upping that by 20X. This validates the superior design and versatility of the mac and will only increase its popularity..

To be clear
The reason I would get the 150 is
Its almost the same size and weight as my ob I have been using for 8 years
But has about 1000cc more oomph
V6 vs i4
Uses larger dia prop pushing more water
My use would be higher long range cruise speed
So instead of 18mph at 3700rpm
Might get 24mph at the same rpm
It's all about getting this hull out of the water and on plane keeping it there without wot to do it
So for fuel economy
A 50 at wot not even able to get on plane would burn more fuel
Than a 150 on plane at 24 using 3700rpm
and if your journey was 50 miles. ..
Will get you there long before the weee 50 pushing water shows up

I'll stick with the diesel - lets see if I can whittle the weight down a bit...
